Not that any of us would ever DREAM of driving while intoxicated, a warning must be issued here.
The Wisconsin State Assembly is about to vote on lowering the legal blood alcohol limit in the State from .10 to .08 Many of us enjoy an alcoholic beverage or two at the bars after the games. It takes a only a small amount of alcohol to put your average adult over .08 If you're unlucky enough to be pulled over for speeding or a broken tail light or something like that after leaving the bar, you may find yourself arrested for drunk driving under this change in the law. Common sense, as well as statistics, tells us that the people who have a few drinks with dinner are NOT the ones killing people on the road. It's the repeat, chronic, highly-intoxicated drunk drivers who are dangerous. The arguments that politicians are for this idiocy all go back to the biggest issue in their careers - money. Supposedly the State will "lose" $8 million of Federal funds for roads if we don't lower the limit. That argument is the wrong way to make government policy. With as bad as the budget is in this State, the last thing they need is more money to blow. What happens to people with bad credit? They can't get money. The same should apply to the irresponsible spenders in State government. These legislators should start looking for more ways to do without the extravagant gifts of the Federal government - which ultimately come out of all our pockets anyway. Write, call, and fax your State legislators on this and urge them not to pass such a non-sensical change in the law. - Duncan There can be only one! |
